HC Deb 14 March 1916 vol 80 cc1904-5W
Mr. BENNETT-GOLDNEY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether the drainage of the new stables in the garden grounds of the School of Musketry at Hythe was considered satisfactory when they were first finished; and if he will say how long these stables have been in use and how many horses they provide accommodation for?

Mr. TENNANT

The drainage of these stables, which were temporary and not permanent, was considered adequate when they were constructed. After the removal of the troops for whose horses the stables were used, the stabling was not for some time occupied. The material for these stables, which accommodate about 400 horses, is available for use elsewhere, and orders have been given to dismantle the stables.

Mr. BENNETT-GOLDNEY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War what officer approved the choice of the site which has been used in the garden grounds in front of the School of Musketry buildings at Hythe for the rows of permanent corrugated iron and wood stables which have been erected close to the main road and in near proximity to the canal; and if he will give the date when these stables were approved, the date when they were finished, and how many horses have been stabled in them since they were finished?

Mr. TENNANT

I am making enquiry on this point.
