HC Deb 14 March 1916 vol 80 c1930W
Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the Secretary for India if a petition has been received from Tetiram Panjumal with respect to the imprisonment of his son, who was alleged to have been concerned in the Budge Budge riots; and what action is he taking in the matter?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The petitioner has been informed that his memorial will be considered when it is submitted in the proper way. It is impossible for the Secretary of State in Council to act on memorials of the kind submitted by persons direct to him until he has received a report from the authorities. The rules laying down the procedure in such cases are well understood in India.
