HC Deb 09 March 1916 vol 80 c1746W
Mr. HODGE

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware of the hardship entailed upon manufacturers and merchants who cannot recover from Germany and Austria outstanding accounts; if he will therefore consider the granting of the advances out of moneys held by the Public Trustee on account of manufacturers and merchants of enemy countries; and, if not, if he will say what action he proposes to take to prevent the ruin of such British subjects who are unable to recover accounts owing by German and Austrian manufacturers or merchants?

Mr. McKENNA

Arrangements for assisting traders in the cases referred to in the question are already in operation, as announced in the Press notice of 3rd November, 1914, a copy of which will be found in the Manual of Emergency Legislation (page 48 of Supplement No. 2).
