§ Mr. RICHARDSasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether a number of officers and men of the 19th Welsh Regiment and the 9th Royal Welsh Fusiliers were recommended by their commanding officers for honours in connection with the battle of Loos on 25th September last; if so, will he say why their names were not included in the publication of Sir John French's official dispatches; and whether he can now give publicity to these recommendations?
§ Mr. TENNANTIn this matter commanding officers may propose, but it is for the higher authorities at Brigade, Division, Corps, Army or General Head-quarters to decide. I can only imagine that the recommendations referred to by my hon. Friend did not survive in the process of standardisation which must necessarily take place.
I may add that Sir John French's dispatch of 30th November, 1915, did not go beyond the period ending 20th September, and as the battle of Loos began on 25th September, the result of recommendations in question has still to appear.
