LONSDALEasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, having regard 1341W to the general demand by local authorities that all pensions, grants, and allowances under the Naval and Military War Pensions Act should be defrayed out of moneys provided by Parliament, he intends to make provision at once for further Grants in addition to the £1,000,000 already voted by Parliament for this purpose?
§ Mr. McKENNAThe sum of £1,000,000 was a provisional sum placed at the disposal of the Statutory Committee more than sufficient for immediate needs, but to be supplemented as soon as information had been obtained upon which some estimate could be formed of the probable total charge upon the Exchequer. Upon the information now before me I propose to ask Parliament at an early date to provide an additional sum of £5,000,000.
