§ Mr. STANTONasked the Financial Secretary to the War Office if he will explain why our soldiers and sailors who are on active service within battle zones should not be paid rates of pay equal to those paid by our Colonies to their men who are serving under our flag; if he is aware that such inequalities of pay are creating discontent in our Army and Navy; and if he will consider the appointment of a Committee to draw up a scheme for the providing of ways and means to pay our soldiers and sailors a reasonable living wage, the same as all other classes expect and demand?
§ Mr. FORSTERThe first part of this question is a subject which cannot be adequately discussed by way of question and answer, but, briefly, the rates of pay 895W in different parts of the Empire reflect differences in conditions of life. It is not thought necessary to appoint a committee as suggested in the last part of the question.
