§ Mr. BENNETT-GOLDNEYasked the Secretary of State for War whether he will consider the demand of the permanent staff messengers and temporary staff messengers at the War Office for an extra war bonus; if he is aware that, although it is generally supposed that the pay of these men, who hold posts of trust and responsibility, was nominally augmented many 2304W months ago by 5s. a week on paper, they were at the same time deprived of their former privilege of sick pay; and if, as many other servants of the State have received more substantial war bonuses, as well as higher pay, as a set of to the extra cost of living, he will now recommend that both the permanent messengers, as well as those on the temporary staff, many of whom have been in the War Office for over ten years, although called temporary in order to effect an economy in emoluments, shall receive a fair and reasonable increase in their pay?
Mr. McKINNON WOODThe case of messengers at the War Office will not be overlooked in connection with the question of granting a war bonus to the lower paid classes of the Civil Service which is at present under consideration.
