HC Deb 21 August 1916 vol 85 c2309W
Sir G. YOUNGER

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he can state the quantity of specially made lager-beer malt now in Great Britain; whether it is intended to grant licences permitting the export of the present stocks; and whether after those are exported no further licences will be granted?

Mr. PRETYMAN

On 1st July last the stocks of malt returned to the Board of Trade as specially prepared for lager beer amounted to 334,000 cwts., of which 272,000 cwts. were in the possession of firms with export contracts. The quantity of lager malt forming the subject of actual contracts for export was, however, returned as 251,000 cwts. Licences are being granted to export from present stocks to allied countries, mainly France and Italy. It is not intended to grant further licences.
