HC Deb 21 August 1916 vol 85 c2305W
Sir E. CORNWALL

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, as there is no likelihood of men passed by the medical board for garrison duty at home being called up for some time to come, he will consider the desirability of exempting from military service any married man who has been passed for this service only and who has efficiently served in the Metropolitan Special Constabulary since August, 1914?

Mr. FORSTER

An Instruction was issued a short time ago that married men of the age of thirty-five and over, employed as special constables in any police force in Great Britain, who have been classified by a medical board as fit for home service only, are not to be called up for service, provided they continue to carry out satisfactorily their duties as special constables.
