§ Commander BELLAIRSasked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the Order in Council affecting Marine officers gives the brevet lieutenant-colonelcy after seven years' service in the substantive rank of 744W major; whether this is being applied to majors who return to full pay in the Navy and Army; and, if not, whether, in view of the Order in Council saying nothing about a break due to half-pay or illness, the Board will give the brevet rank to those who make up seven years in the substantive rank in the Navy during the War, and will use their influence to procure the same concession for Royal Marine officers serving with the Army?
§ Dr. MACNAMARAThe Order in Council referred to provides for majors to be eligible for promotion to the rank of lieutenant-colonel by brevet after twenty-eight years' service on full pay, or after the completion of seven years' service as regimental-major. No officers serving in the Reserve of Officers, Royal Marines, have as yet completed the period of service referred to.
