HC Deb 28 September 1915 vol 74 c746W
Mr. MAURICE HEALY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to the circumstances connected with the death of Private Michael O'Connell, C Company, 6th Middlesex Regiment, on the 1st August last at the Woodlands Camp, Gillingham, and the expression of opinion by the coroner's jury at the inquest; whether the deceased had been ill for a week before his death, and during that time did no duty and was lying down all the time except when he went to the dining hall, but was not seen by the doctor and died without medical attendance; whether it is regular to have soldiers lying ill and exempted from duty without the order of the medical officer; and will he say why the examination of the deceased's body by the doctor was delayed till the day after deceased died?

Mr. TENNANT

My attention had not been previously called to this case, but I have asked for a report.
