HC Deb 21 September 1915 vol 74 c334W
Mr. KING

asked the Minister of Munitions whether agents of the British Government in America have been instructed to buy growing timber for rifle stocks; whether timber suitable for rifle stocks can be acquired in this country; and at what earliest future date will growing timber be made available for the manufacture of rifles?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. As regards the second part of the question, I am willing to consider the purchase of any such timber as may prove to be available. As regards the third part of the question, growing timber is unsuitable for the manufacture of rifles.
