§ Mr. MacVEAGHasked the Secretary for the Colonies whether the compensation to settlers in Victoria who have sustained losses by the failure of the irrigation system is to take the form of wiping out the rent for three years, or merely to postpone for three years the collection of the rent with interest for that period; and, if the latter, whether this is the only measure of compensation proposed?
§ Mr. BONAR LAWI understand that the compensation as at present arranged takes the form of postponement of payment of rent for three years. Whether any further compensation is called for is a matter that rests entirely with the Government of Victoria.
