§ Sir ARCHIBALD WILLIAMSONasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether in New Zealand soldiers, sailors, fishermen, and others absent from home in the course of their employment can nevertheless vote in Parliamentary elections; whether the Government of Canada is considering legislation with a similar object; and whether he will obtain copies of the New Zealand Act or regulations for the information of Members?
Mr. HARCOURTActs were recently passed by the Parliament of New Zealand to enable members of any Expeditionary Force to exercise their votes at the recent General Election. I am not aware whether similar legislation is in contemplation in Canada. Provision has also been made in New Zealand, under Act 59 of 1910, whereby an absent voter can obtain a voting permit authorising him to record his vote outside the district in which he is enrolled. Copies of the New Zealand Acts will be placed in the Library of the House.
