HC Deb 04 February 1915 vol 69 c164W
Mr. JOYNSON-HICKS

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the Fleet of which the "Formidable" was one was cruising without attendant destroyers, and, if so, why; and whether this was the first occasion on which they had so cruised under a new admiral?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I cannot undertake to discuss the conduct of naval operations during the progress of the War.

Lord CHARLES BERESFORD

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether, having regard to the fact that merchant vessels of slow speed have been destroyed by submarines, the Admiralty will provide naval defence for convoys in order to minimise the danger?

Mr. CHURCHILL

Sir, all these matters receive careful attention in the proper quarters.
