HC Deb 21 April 1915 vol 71 c275W
Mr. GINNELL

asked the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture (Ireland) if he can state whether there is an adequate supply of breeding swine throughout Ireland; and whether there is a prospect of any substantial increase in the number of pigs this year?

Mr. T. W. RUSSELL

Inquiries made by the Department show that the tendency to dispose of pig stocks, which set in as a result of the rise in prices of feeding-stuffs following the outbreak of the War, has been arrested in some districts. It is anticipated that the advice given by the Department through the agricultural instructors and the Press, and the circulation of information showing that the prospects for pig breeders are good, will have the effect of substantially increasing pig stocks, but until statistics now about to be collected are available the Department will not be in a position to make a definite statement on the subject.
