HC Deb 21 April 1915 vol 71 c273W
Colonel WALKER

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will register the names of the signatories arising out of the recent campaign of prohibition, with a view to a special tax being levied on all those who do not contribute to the Exchequer through the consumption of exciseable liquor, in order that they may bear their fair share of the burdens of the State?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I cannot see my way to adopt the hon. and gallant Member's suggestion. I would point out that the signatories of the recent petitions in favour of prohibition were by no means confined to teetotalers.
