HC Deb 26 November 1914 vol 68 cc1348-9W
Mr. WILES

asked the Postmaster-General if he can now state whether he proposes to increase the rates of pay of temporary postal workers who are taking the places of regular members of the staff serving with the Colours?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

I am glad to say I have been able to sanction certain improvements in the pay of the temporary postal staff in London. The minimum pay of temporary sorters will be raised from 22s. a week (for men in training) to 26s. and the maximum for fully qualified men from 30s. to 32s. The pay of temporary postmen and porters will be raised from 24s. to 26s. a week; fully qualified postmen in Division I. will have 28s. I also propose to increase the pay of temporary outdoor men in certain provincial towns, but I must be guided by local circumstances in each case.
