HC Deb 26 November 1914 vol 68 cc1342-3W
Sir THOMAS ESMONDE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that there is a shortage of silver coin in Ireland which is causing much inconvenience; and if he will take steps to deal with the matter as speedily as possible?

Mr. MONTAGU

This matter has been kept under constant observation and the Mint has been and is still working at full pressure to overtake the demand. The total value of silver coin supplied to Ireland in the period 1st January to 25th November, 1914, inclusive, was £400,800, of which £355,200 has been sent since 1st August—whereas in 1913 £116,800 was supplied in all, and £66,500 in 1912.
