HC Deb 26 November 1914 vol 68 c1347W
Mr. NIELD

asked the Home Secretary whether, having regard to the reasons advanced by him for the passing of the Intoxicating Liquor (Temporary Restriction) Act, 1914, it was intended to alter or affect the law as to bonâ fide travellers; and whether any Orders made in pursuance of that Act can extend to a matter which is already the subject of legislative authority and is not at variance with the earlier closing of licensed premises?

Mr. McKENNA

The powers given by this Act are to suspend the sale or consumption of intoxicating liquor at times and under conditions when it would otherwise be lawful. I am advised that Orders made under the Act are not subject to the exemption in favour ofbonâ fide travellers contained in the ordinary law.
