asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the extra duty payable on beers of gravity of 1020, 1025, 1030, 1035, and 1040, respectively; what is the average gravity of beer known as mild ale and sold in London at 4d. per quart; and what is the average gravity of London porter?

The additional duty at the rate 23s. payable on beers of the specified gravities is as follows:—

The average gravity of the ale and porter mentioned in the second and third parts of the question is considerably higher than 1040.
