HC Deb 25 November 1914 vol 68 c1142W
Mr. HAYES FISHER

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he can state the number of Army chaplains who have been accepted for service since the commencement of the War; what is the cost of the necessary equipment of an Army chaplain; and what part of the cost is defrayed out of public funds?

Mr. TENNANT

Over 260 clergymen of all denominations giving their whole time to Army duty have been appointed temporary chaplains to the Forces since the outbreak of War to the present date. The cost of an officer's outfit is about £30. At present no portion of this is borne by public funds.
