HC Deb 21 May 1914 vol 62 cc2155-6W
Mr. ASTOR

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether any local authorities undertaking the treatment of uninsured persons suffering from tuberculosis within their district, with the aid of the Hobhouse Grant, have applied for permission to give domiciliary treatment to such uninsured persons?

Mr. HERBERT LEWIS

The answer is in the affirmative.

Mr. FIELD

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether any instruction has been issued to local authorities, who have arranged to provide treatment for tuberculous subjects, that the medical life history of adult patients shall disclose whether the bacilli is of human or bovine origin; and, if no such instruction has been given, will he direct the same to be made in order to furnish scientific data calculated to determine the degree of danger, if any, arising from the ingestion of tuberculous meat?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

No instruction of the nature referred to has been issued to local authorities. I may also observe that the question which the hon. Member desires should be determined would not be solved by merely ascertaining whether the organism was of bovine or human character.
