HC Deb 21 May 1914 vol 62 cc2163-4W
Mr. STEWART

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will furnish a list of the different schools of cookery or other institutions in the United Kingdom which are approved by the Board of Trade for the purpose of granting certificates to ships' cooks after instruction; whether he can supply figures classifying the number of British subjects, aliens, Chinese, and others who have attended each of these schools of cookery or other approved institutions during the past twelve months; and whether he will consider the advisability of forming separate classes of instruction at these different schools for British subjects desirous of qualifying for these certificates?

Mr. BURNS

I am not in a position to furnish the figures asked for in the second part of the question, and in reply to the last part I would point out that the organisation of the classes in these schools is necessarily a matter for the authorities by whom the schools are conducted.
