HC Deb 21 May 1914 vol 62 c2148W
Captain CRAIG

asked the Chief Secretary whether it is the intention of the Law Officers in Ireland to put on trial at the Summer Assizes in county Mayo the twenty persons charged with riot in the town of Westport on the 4th February last; whether there is any prospect of getting an impartial verdict in county Mayo in this case, in view of the influence over jurors possessed by the Ancient Order of Hibernians, to which the persons charged are said to belong; and whether he will consider the necessity of a change of venue to a county or city where a fair verdict may be obtained?

Mr. BIRRELL

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to my reply to his question on this subject on 29th April, to which I have nothing to add.
