§ Sir GEORGE SCOTT ROBERTSONasked the Under-Secretary for India whether he has any information concerning the part played by private Indian charitable organisations in relieving the distress in the famine districts of the United Provinces?
Mr. ROBERTSThe Secretary of State has no detailed information, but he understands that in addition to the Charitable Relief Fund opened by the Lieutenant-Governor, by which a considerable sum has been raised, a private fund was being organised. The reports from the distressed districts refer in general terms to the activities of private charity.
