HC Deb 11 May 1914 vol 62 cc728-9W
Mr. CURRIE

asked the hon. Member for St. George's-in-the-East, as representing the Insurance Commissioners, whether his attention has been drawn to the case of David Stott, engineer, residing at 52, Broughton Road, Edinburgh, and to the repeated applications which, within recent months, he has made to the Labour Exchange office, 133, Constitution Street, Leith, that certain contributions wrongly exacted and collected from him under the National Insurance Act should be repaid to him now that the error has come to light; whether the authorities have been informed that the withholding of the money in question is causing hardship to the applicant; whether an assurance can now be given that the claim (the accuracy of which has not been called in question) will be paid by some early specified day; and whether a number of claims of the same kind are in the same position?

Mr. BURNS

I assume that the case referred to by the hon. Member is one where a refund has been claimed of contributions paid in error under Part II. of the National Insurance Act, 1911. I am not aware of the details of this particular case, but inquiry will be made and if the claim is valid, payment will be made immediately.
