§ Mr. MORRELLasked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he has yet obtained information in the case of John Cliff, of 11, Hudson Street, Burnley, aged 74, whose pension under the Old Age Pension Act was stopped from 19th January to 6th March, in consequence of his having been previously for 13 days in the work-house infirmary; whether any money has been found to be due to him; and, if so, whether it has yet been paid over?
§ Mr. MONTAGUI have made inquiries and find that no money is due to John Cliff in respect of pension up to the 6th March last. Cliff entered the general body of the workhouse on 6th January; and the Local Pension Committee decided that ho had thereby become disqualified. A fresh pension was, however, granted by the Committee on the 4th March, the first payment becoming due on the Friday following. There is no power under the law to authorise any further payment of the old pension, or to antedate the first payment of the new pension.
