HALL (Dulwich)asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if his attention has been called to the obligation imposed on motor omnibuses by Committees of both Houses of Parliament to contribute 3–8d. a mile in respect of the use of the Great Western Road to be constructed by the Middlesex County Council; and whether, with a view to securing uniformity of practice in this matter, the Government intends to introduce legislation to deal with the whole subject of contributions by motor omnibus traffic to the upkeep of roads used by it?
§ Mr. HERBERT SAMUELMy right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. I am aware of the Clause to which the hon. Member refers. The Government propose that a Joint Select Committee of both Houses should be appointed to consider the general question.
