HC Deb 26 February 1914 vol 58 c1960W
Sir WALTER ESSEX

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the increasing substitution of nickel and other metals for bronze in the coinage of various European nations, he considers a similar departure desirable in the case of our cumbrous British coins of the lower values?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

As I have already stated in this House, I do not think that the experience of other countries in connection with nickel coinage affords adequate grounds for its introduction into the United Kingdom.
