HC Deb 23 February 1914 vol 58 cc1412-3W
Mr. HUGH LAW

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in framing proposals for the future distribution of State Grants in aid of local expenditure, the Government will have regard to-the disproportion of the present Grants to local necessity and ability as between different districts in respect of services other than education; and whether they propose to give effect in Ireland to any of the recommendations of Lord Balfour of Burleigh and Lord Blair Balfour on the amount and distribution of Exchequer contributions affixed to the Report of the Royal Commission of 1902?

Mr. MONTAGU

I fear that at present my right hon. Friend is unable to add anything to the general statement he made in the House of Commons on Thursday last.

Mr. CLANCY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Committee on Local Taxation has yet investigated the case of Ireland; and, if so, when its Report on that case may be expected?

Mr. MONTAGU

My right hon. Friend understands that the Committee have been dealing with England and Wales only.
