§ Mr. BUTCHERasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether an allowance of 3d. per gallon is made to distillers in the United Kingdom on home-manufactured spirits when exported abroad in order to compensate them for the expense they are put to in consequence of Excise regulations; and whether, in view of the importance to growers of tobacco in the United Kingdom of obtaining new outlets for the sale of their tobacco, and of the expense they are put to in consequence of Excise regulations, he will grant such growers a reasonable allowance or drawback on home-grown tobacco when exported in an unmanufactured state, and so enable such growers to compete with foreign growers of tobacco on fairer terms?
§ Mr. MONTAGUAn allowance of the nature described is made in respect of 1415W spirits. My right hon. Friend hardly thinks that the time has yet arrived for making similar allowance on home-grown unmanufactured tobacco, but he will consider the matter.
