§ Sir J. D. REESasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps have been or will now be taken to redress the grievances of the excise officers who are prejudiced by amalgamation with the customs department in 1909?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEIn the autumn of 1911 and spring of 1912 I received deputations from officers, both of customs and excise origin, and listened to statements of their alleged grievances under the amalgamation scheme, and after considering the whole question carefully, I announced a number of important concessions to the staff. Further memorials from the staff are still under consideration.
