HC Deb 02 April 1914 vol 60 c1370W
Mr. LARDNER

asked the number of persons aged seventy years and upwards in Ireland who were in receipt of poor relief, indoor or outdoor respectively, in the years 1909, 1910, 1911, 1912 and 1913, including any cases of old age pensioners in receipt of medical relief?

Mr. BIRRELL

The number of persons in Ireland aged seventy years and upwards who were in receipt of poor relief on the 1st January, 1910, was 16,629 outdoor and 8,912 indoor. On the 1st January, 1911, the numbers were 6,060 and 7,952 respectively, and on 1st January, 1912, 1,681 and 6,555 respectively. The figures for 1909 and 1913 are not available, and I have no information as to the number of old age pensioners in receipt of medical relief. In order to obtain this information it would be necessary to communicate with every union in Ireland.
