HC Deb 31 March 1913 vol 51 cc46-7W
Captain CRAIG

asked the Secretary of State for War what is the weekly allowance of coal to the married private; and is it sufficient to keep a fire going throughout the week or is he intended to supplement the fuel out of his pay?

Colonel SEELY

Fuel is issued to the units as a whole, not to the married private in particular. In fixing the amount to be issued, an allowance is made for each married private at the rate of 120 lbs. a week for eight months and 80 lbs. for four months of the year, on a running account. These issues have hitherto been found to be sufficient. It is not intended that the man should supplement the fuel out of his pay.
