BATHURSTasked the Postmaster-General what was the average wage of Post Office employés, other than postmasters, in the years 1902 and 1912, respectively; and whether, assuming that there has been an increase in the cost of living and a decrease in the purchasing power of money of 12 per cent. during the last ten years, the increase in such average wage during this period has been in the same or any less proportion?
§ Mr. HERBERT SAMUELI regret that the information desired by the hon. Member could not be ascertained without considerable trouble and expense. As he is doubtless aware the question of the pay and other conditions of Post Office servants is now being inquired into by a Select Committee of this House, whose attention has already been directed to the cost of living and the purchasing power of money.
