§ Mr. INGLEBYasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that surveyors of taxes are in the habit of putting inquisitorial questions to employers concerning their employés, to which the employés themselves might be 599W unwilling to give an answer; whether surveyors are entitled to demand from employers a reply to such questions as to whether an employé is married or single and similar questions not within the employer's knowledge; and, if not, whether he will issue instructions that the practice be discontinued?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEI am not aware of any such practice as that referred to by the hon. Member. If he will furnish me with particulars of any case which has come to his knowledge it shall be suitably dealt with. There would appear to be no need for the issue of general instructions in the matter.
