HC Deb 31 July 1913 vol 56 cc736-7W
Mr. WILLIAM O'BRIEN

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland what is the amount of land actually resold to tenant freeholders by the Congested Districts Board since the Act of 1909 in each of the counties included in its jurisdiction; and what is the number of freeholders in whom their holdings have since that date been vested in each of these counties?

Mr. BURRELL

The amount of land resold to tenants and the number of holdings vested in the various congested districts counties since the passing of the Irish Land Act of 1909 is as follows:—

County. Total Area of Land Sold since Act, 1909. Number of Holdings Vested.
Acres.
Donegal 721 27
Sligo 2,903 7
Mayo 17,165 537
Galway 3,079 271
Kerry 29,583 275
Cork 64 5
Roscommon 24,629 772
Leitrim 191 Nil.
Total 78,335 1,894

Mr. FRANCIS MEEHAN

asked whether the Estates Commissioners have considered the application of Mrs. Catherine O'Donnell for reinstatement in the holding from which she was evicted on the Montgomery estate, Lisanerris, Drumkeerin, county Leitrim, in 1897; and whether, having regard to the fact that she has a large young family who wiil, If not reinstated, be compelled to emigrate, and to the fact that the occupying tenant is willing to take compensation, immediate steps will be taken for her reinstatement?

Mr. BIRRELL

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, and to the second part in the negative. The lands have already been purchased under the Land Purchase Acts, and are held by the present occupier subject to a land purchase annuity, and the Estates Commissioners have no power to make any further advance in respect of such lands.
