§ Viscount WOLMERasked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that the fumes from copper works do a great amount of damage to neighbouring crops; and whether, in view of the powers conferred upon him by Section 8 and Section 27, paragraph (b), of the Alkali, etc., Works Regulation Act, 1906, he will issue a Provisional Order dealing with this nuisance and providing for compensation to be paid to farmers whose crops have been damaged
§ Mr. BURNSI am considering what practical steps can be taken to make an effective reduction in the amount of acid gases at present discharged into the air from copper works. I have no power to make a Provisional Order providing for the payment of compensation to farmers in respect of any damage to crops.
