HC Deb 28 January 1913 vol 47 c1194W
Mr. NEWMAN

asked the Chief Secretary if he will lay upon the Table of the House a copy of the correspondence between Pierce Gun Mahony, of Kilmury, Castleisland, and the secretary of the Congested Districts Board for Ireland in reference to the Castleisland parish committee, together with a copy of the rules for parish committees issued by the Board?

Mr. BIRRELL

The answer is in the negative. No useful purpose would be served by laying on the Table a copy of this correspondence, which is of no public importance.

Mr. STAVE LEY-HILL

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland what has been the result of the inquiries made by the Congested Districts Board, in accordance with their letter of 27th June, 1912, into the omission to summon to the meetings of the parish committee of Castleisland, county Kerry, Mr. Pierce Gun Mahony, a landlord who owns land and has residence within the parish, and is therefore by Rule 8 (c) an ex-officio member of the committee; why the result of the inquiries has not been communicated to Mr. Mahony; whether he is aware that the parish committee, on the invitation of the Congested Districts Board, has consented to act for the year 1912–13; and what reason exists for the omission to summon Mr. Mahony to the parish committee?

Mr. BIRRELL

As a result of the inquiries made by the Congested Districts Board the name of Mr. P. G. Mahony has been placed on the list of members of the Castleisland parish committee, and the Board have given instructions that he shall receive the usual notices of the meetings of the committee. An earlier notification to Mr. Mahony was not possible as the Board's inquiries have only just concluded. As far as the Board can learn the reason for the omission to summon Mr. Mahony was owing to a doubt as to whether he was a resident landlord within the meaning of the rules. The parish committee has consented to act for the year 1912–13.
