§ Mr. WARDLEasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is now in a 2289W position to communicate the reply of the Great Central Railway Company on the question of station masters employed on other duties, as promised on 21st November last?
Mr. BUXTONThe Great Central Railway Company have informed the Board of Trade that it is only in exceptional cases that station masters are required to relieve goods guards in charge of trains where the latter would otherwise have to work long hours, other relief not being available. They state that in the course of three months only nine out of a total number of 215 station masters were called upon to take charge of goods trams, and then only for short periods.
