HC Deb 11 February 1913 vol 48 cc737-8W
Sir J. D. REES

asked the Under-Secretary for India whether the Secretary of State has appointed Mr. Bamford local education adviser for Indian students at Glasgow University; whether similar appointments have been made at Oxford, Cambridge, and Manchester; whether further appointments are contemplated and, if so, where; what is the total cost to the Indian taxpayer of the whole system of supervision of Indian students, including the above-mentioned appointments and that of Mr. Mallet; and whether its permanent retention is contemplated?

Mr. HAROLD BAKER

The answer to the first, second, and fifth questions is in the affirmative. On the third question the Secretary of State has no statement to make at present. As regards the cost of the system mentioned in the fourth question, I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given on the 22nd October last in reply to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Roxburghshire. The appointments recently made at Oxford, Cambridge, Manchester, and Glasgow, entail additional net expenditure of £700 a year.
