HC Deb 04 February 1913 vol 47 cc2000-1W
Mr. MARTIN

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland what payments were made by the Government of Ireland during the financial years 1905–6, 1906–7, 1907–8, 1908–9, 1909–10, 1910–11, 1911–12, and the expired portion of 1912–13, to Members of Parliament being barristers, giving the name and amount in each case?

Mr. BIRRELL

The information asked for, extending over a period of seven years and necessitating inquiries from all the public Departments in Ireland, would involve an amount of work and trouble out of all proportion to the value of the information when obtained.

Mr. MARTIN

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture what payments were made during the years 1905–6, 1906–7,1907–8, 1908–9, 1909–10, 1910–11, 1911–12, and the expired portion of 1912–13, to Members of Parliament being barristers, giving the name and amount in each case?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

No payments appear to have been made by the Board to Members of Parliament being barristers during the period in question, apart from the reimbursement of expenses incurred by such Members when serving on Departmental Committees.
