HC Deb 17 April 1913 vol 51 c2134W
Mr. COURTHOPE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Insurance Commissioners will provide sanatorium benefit for the dependants of insured persons in those counties in which the insurance committees have not yet been able to make such provision?

Mr. MASTERMAN

Section 17 of the Insurance Act empowers insurance committees to extend sanatorium benefit to the dependants of insured persons, and provides for contributions from the Exchequer and the rates towards the cost of their treatment. In addition, the Government have promised further assistance to local authorities undertaking to treat uninsured persons suffering from tuberculosis, whether they are the dependants of insured persons or not. I am sending the hon. Member a copy of a circular issued to local authorities by the Local Government Board describing in detail the scheme of the financial arrangements proposed.
