§ Colonel YATEasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been called to the recent orders issued by the Government of India on the subject of the commutation of pensions, in which it is stated that in no case will commutation be sanctioned which will leave the pensioner in receipt of less than three-quarters of the pension originally issued to him; and whether he will now consider the question of similar conditions being applied in England?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEOrdinary Civil Service pensions granted under the Superannuation Acts cannot be commuted. Compensation allowances granted under Section 7 of the Superannuation Act, 1859, may be commuted in whole or in part, under the Pensions Commutation Act, 1871, if the application for commutation is recommended by the head of the Department to which the applicant belonged. I see no sufficient reason for any alteration in the existing practice.
