HC Deb 24 October 1912 vol 42 c2401W
Sir JOHN LONSDALE

asked the Postmaster-General if he will state, for each of the years 1906 to 1911, inclusive, how many ex-soldiers have been given employment in the Post Office in England, Scotland, and Ireland, respectively; and if he will state for each country what percentage these appointments represent of the total number of positions filled in the period named?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

Member; but certain figures are available as regards the number of ex-soldiers and ex-sailors appointed as established postmen and porters during the years 1909, 1910, and 1911, which may perhaps answer his purpose. The following is a Return showing the number of vacancies for established postmen and porters in England, Scotland, and Ireland, filled by ex-soldiers and ex-sailors during the years 1909, 1910, and 1911, and the total number of such vacancies:—
