HC Deb 22 October 1912 vol 42 c1962W
Captain CAMPBELL

asked the Postmaster-General if he is aware that the administration of the post offices of Saltcoats and Ardrossan has its headquarters in the latter place, and that feeling exists that Saltcoats, being the larger of the two towns mentioned, should at least have equal postal facilities with Ardrossan; and, if so, is he prepared to do what lies in his power to remove this grievance?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

The post office at Saltcoats was converted into a branch office and placed under the control of the postmaster of Ardrossan in February last. This step was taken for the purpose of improvement of administration, and was not in any way prejudicial to the postal facilities enjoyed at Saltcoats. The distance between the two offices is only about 1¼ miles, and there is no reason for maintaining two head offices in such close proximity. From the standpoint of postal administration Ardrossan is the larger centre.
