HC Deb 11 November 1912 vol 43 cc1745-6W
Mr. JAMES O'KELLY

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he will grant a public and sworn inquiry into the arbitrary dismissal by the Commissioners of Education of Mr. Mansfield, vice-president of the teachers' organisation, and the conduct of Dr. Starkie in bringing about the crisis in the educational affairs of the country?

Mr. BIRRELL

For reasons I have already given, the answer must be in the negative. As the hon. Member is no doubt aware, I have promised an inquiry into the working of the present system of inspection and into other kindred matters.
