Mr. WORTHINGTON-EVANSasked the Secretary of State for War whether it is the practice of his Department to enforce an age limit of sixty years on the civilian subordinates working in the Army Ordnance Department; and whether, in view of the impossibility of men discharged at that age finding other employment, steps will be taken to pension those not having other service pensions?
§ Mr. HAROLD BAKERUnder the Regulations civil subordinates may be retained beyond the age of sixty, at the discretion of the head of their Department, provided that they remain competent to discharge their duties, and I have no information to show that heads of Departments fail to exercise their discretion wisely. I regret that I can hold out no hope of pensions for these men from public funds.
