§ Mr. MITCHELL-THOMSONasked the amount expended by the Department in the financial year 1911–12 upon instruction in art and domestic economy schools held in convents, agricultural schools held in monasteries, other domestic economy schools, and other agricultural schools and colleges, respectively?
§ Mr. RUSSELLThe amounts expended by the Department in the financial year 1911–12 under the heads enumerated are:—
(a) Upon instruction in Art in schools held in convents £l,108 (b) Upon instruction in Domestic Economy in schools held in convents 4,793 (c) Upon Agricultural Schools held in monasteries £539 (d) Upon Domestic Economy in schools other than those held in convents £4,765 (e) Upon Agricultural Schools and Colleges other than those held in monasteries £13,742 Under the head (d) a large sum is expended annually by local technical instruction committees out of their funds, which are made up mainly of contributions from the Department's Endowment and of rates contributed by the local authorities. It is not possible to separate from the general expenditure of such committees the amount spent upon instruction in domestic economy.
